Sara & Marc’s Rustic Wedding at the Cove Lakeside Resort

Being an Okanagan destination wedding florist I often don’t get the opportunity to meet my clients in person before their wedding day, with details being planned over email & phone.  Sara & Marc were no exception – planning their wedding from out of country with quite a time change.  Luckily I had the privilege to plan the floral arrangements for this beautiful wedding with the help of Sara’s mother Susan – who really brought their wedding vision to life.  The result was a gorgeous Rustic Chic affair, held at The Cove Lakeside Resort in West Kelowna.    Sara & Marc wanted to have very soft & simple designs so we used babies breath in the bridesmaids bouquets, filled in our hobnail jars down the aisle, and as accents on the tables & in white wood painted boxes.    The brides bouquet was stunning, with the last of the seasons White Peonies,  Spray Roses, Lisianthus, Freesia, Hypericum Berries,  Hints of Babies Breath & Eucalyptus Greenery – I think it complemented Sara’s amazing dress perfectly.   Hints of fresh lavender purchased from the Okanagan Lavender Herb Farm were added throughout the reception room.  The centrepieces were simple mercury glass hurricane holders provided by the couple with groupings of water picked roses & babies breath around.  The highlight was the transformation of the Cove’s wooden arbor, which we covered in Curly Willow Branches & Hanging Amaranthus accented by a crystal chandelier –  providing a perfect backdrop for their nuptials.    The day was beautifully captured by the incredible Jessica Zais Photography.     Congratulations to Sara & Marc & thank you for letting us create these flowers for your day!

Wild Love – Styled Wedding Shoot

Well..  Where do I begin?  I cannot take the credit as the mastermind behind this shoot –  so I will immediately credit my sweet & talented friends Katie Nugent of Katie Nugent Photography & Lauren from Perspective Event Designs.   When they discussed with me the want & need to create a wedding shoot that was a little more rugged, away from the norm of “Pretty” weddings  (with still having a bit of pretty in there) & with a handsome bearded male model I jumped at the chance!  I absolutely loved being a part of this shoot, inspired by a wild & carefree love,   a story of couple who just couldn’t wait to be married & ran off to the woods to elope.

Thank you to all the incredible vendors  –   Laura Ayotte of Dandelion Willows for the awesome stationary,  Mel Feeny of Shimmer & Gloss for the beautiful Makeup for our model,  Ashley Nitti of Mint Hair Salon for the fantastic hair styling of our models,   Tanis Giesbrecht baked & designed the gorgeous naked cake & rustic breads,   Katie Nugent’s mom for the fantastic boho wedding gown she created, our fantastic models Alex & Rod – who braved a torrential downpour,  cold weather & some unreliable boots (haha Rod), and of course to Denise & Herbert Wandt (owners of Tours 59), who provided the beautiful backdrop of their incredible forest and backyard. Thank you all for your hard work & including your expertise into this shoot.

The flowers we created for this shoot were designed to be very natural & organic,  with a picked from the wild feel.   We created a beautiful & organic tablescape on a rustic wood table top.  We wanted it to feel very natural and organic so created a  moss table runner with a few blooms embedded within, and white blooms of Peonies, Tulips, Ranunculus & Wax Flower filled assorted glassware & bottles.    The bridal bouquet for Alex was a simple design of Apple Blossoms, Peonies, Ranunculus, Wax Flower, Berzilia Berries, Tulips & Fern, and created a matching boutonniere wrapped in twine for Rod.

I hope you enjoy our hard work as much as we had fun creating it!

Industrial Glamour – Okanagan Bridal Expo Booth 2014

Well it’s that time of year again –  wedding show season!   I’ve done at least one show every year since I started Classic Creations in the Fall of 2009, and love looking back on how I’ve grown in my business and designs since my very first show October 2009 (and over 130 weddings later).    These shows are all about showcasing yourself and what you love, and finding a way to stand out against everyone else out there.   What I love most about these shows is being able to create something unique that hasn’t been seen before & that inspires me and makes me happy.  It’s also a perfect time to feature some new rental products, see what other Okanagan wedding vendors are up to,  and of course most importantly meet some lovely brides excited about planning their day!

In November I moved into a brand new industrial studio space, which is what ended up inspiring my “Industrial Glamour” booth.  The furniture pieces I have purchased for my studio space were perfect for my booth design – bringing in hints of the industrial theme,  while I made sure the flowers were bold & glamorous.   I set everything up the night before in my studio, to make sure  it was exactly how I wanted it, and I didn’t want to take it down!

In choosing my flowers I decided I wanted to do something brighter & a bit more bold than what I have been doing lately.  The 2013 wedding season was the year of muted pastels flowers – specifically blush, white & peach, so I wanted to feature something a bit different.   Don’t be afraid of colour, you can still create an elegant and glamorous look when paired with rustic pieces & gold accents!   I used Hydrangeas, Peonies, Garden Roses, Standard Roses, Ranunculus, Tulips & Orchids in shades of Orange, Peach, Coral, Pink, Purple & White with a hint of Grey Dusty Millar & Seeded Eucalyptus (I have an obsession with Dusty Millar).    I love how the colours pop off the gold vases, gold dinnerware, ornate lanterns & reclaimed grey wood.

Thank you to the talented Jon & Jenny Adrian of Adrian Photographers, who took  these beautiful photos of my booth.  I so appreciate their talent & continued support,  and I am really looking forward to working with them more this wedding season!

I hope you enjoy looking at these photos as much as I enjoyed creating my booth design, and I hope it can inspire you to create your own perfect wedding or event.

Juliya & Darryl’s Wedding – Cedar Creek Winery & The Harvest Golf Course

From the moment I met Juliya in our first consultation I knew this was going to be in my top 10 weddings for the year.     She had requested some pops of colour in her flowers and wanted to make them a little fun but still keep with an elegant theme.  I paired a softer orange rose with coral roses, tons of white hydrangea, light pink peonies (my favorite!), and this years popular greenery – dusty millar.   We had such a great team of wedding vendors working on this one – love how all of the details came together.     Thank you to Jessica Zais Photography for providing me with these beautiful images to share with you all!

Vintage Elegance

This past weekend we participated in a Bridal Expo in Kelowna. I met so many wonderful brides, and loved hearing all about their wedding plans, details and ideas. Thanks to all of you who stopped by the Classic Creations booth and said hi! There was an overwhelming number of entries into the draw for $100.00 off of a floral package, so we have decided to draw three lucky names instead of one. I will be doing the draw in the next few days, and will be in contact with the winners soon. Goodluck to you all!

After months of narrowing down ideas, creating sketches, measuring out the space, re-designing the booth (a few times might I add) and finding the perfect pieces to put into the space, my booth came together exactly how I had envisioned it. It really was a labour of love, and am so happy with the final result. I wanted to create something that was soft, romantic and fresh – keeping with a vintage elegant theme. I ordered flowers in different shades of peaches, pinks, greens and whites. Beautiful peach Juliet garden roses and a few select pink peonies (Yes, Peonies! Totally worth the price tag for this event out of season) were the highlight of the arrangements. The bright green of the mini green hydrangea & hanging amaranthus were beautiful in contrast to the pink, while the white hydrangea gave the beautiful ruffly base to all of the arrangements.

The AMAZING white fireplace became the perfect backdrop to our little wedding vignette and a perfect base to display our arrangements. We chose to cover it with some beautiful Apothecary jars and Classic Creations beautiful new Hobnail Jar Collection which are available for rental – they are a pretty twist on plain mason jars. The apothecary jars are often used to display colourful candy, but I’ve always wanted to use them as the container for a floral arrangement – a terrarium of sorts. I filled each with different arrangements consisting of garden roses, lisianthus, spray roses, ornithogalum, succulents, and nestled these arrangments in a bed of Spanish moss and bright green reindeer moss. Loved how pretty they turned out. I also created simple arrangements for each hobnail vase, the perfect size for a simple wedding table arrangement. The mantle was illuminated by Classic Creations cute new hobnail votive holders which are also available for rental.

One of my favorite pieces is the Rustic Wooden Boxes that were custom made by my wonderful husband Jon, based on a simple sketch I made last spring. They have been such amazing and versatile pieces in Classic Creations rental inventory, and have already been used in multiple weddings and events in 2012. I have plans in the very near future to create similar rustic boxes for table centerpiece purposes (rather get Jon to build me some, so helpful having such a handy husband!). I filled these arrangements with beautiful large white hydrangea, mini green hydrangea, La Perla roses & of course the beautiful Juliet garden roses. White painted twigs were added for movement & height and I love the contrast between the soft pretty flowers and the rustic grey wood.

I also created a perfect table centerpiece, complete with two beautiful little arrangments in the small and medium sized hobnail glass jars. The beautiful vintage chairs and the incredibly gorgeous tablecloth set these arrangements off beautifully.

What is a wedding show without bridal bouquets? I created three different options keeping within the booth’s overall theme and colour scheme.

In case you are wondering what the “white stuff” is in the last bouquet. It’s actually cotton pods! Love all of the texture in this bouquet.

HUGE thank you goes out to my husband Jon for all of his help with setup, Yuriko (and her husband Erik) of Vintage Origami Wedding Rentals for all of the beautiful decor pieces, helping with set up & all of the positive support in the planning process, Lauren Krausher of Perspective Event Design for the beautiful white draping, Kevin Trowbridge Photography for our gorgeous canvases and lastly, thanks to Melanie Feeny of Shimmer + Gloss for the beautiful vintage inspired makeup that completed my look.

I hope you enjoyed looking at the photos as much as I enjoyed creating all the beautiful flowers & putting together Classic Creations booth display. It was such a wonderful day and I hope these images have given you some inspiration for your own wedding or special event!
